Flowers of Adversity

Starr Carter constantly switched between two worlds living in the poor, mostly black neighborhood, and attending the rich, mostly white, prep school. there's an obvious uneasy balance between the two worlds, but that becomes clear when she witnesses the shooting of her childhood friend at the hands of a police officer. facing the pressures from her community, Starr has to find her voice to stand up for those who can no longer speak for themselves.
